About Hearing Country Voices Research Partnership

This poster presentation is an output of a research partnership between Uniting Country SA (UCSA) and The Australian Alliance for Social Enterprise (TAASE) at the University of South Australia. That body of work exists under the umbrella title of Hearing Country Voices, and it is an ongoing commitment to evidence informed practice which aligns with UCSA’s vision of just communities where all people flourish.

This project addresses an important gap in intimate partner violence research in Australia by aiming to understand young country women’s (16 to 24 years) perceptions and experiences of intimate partner violence, while also aiming to provide evidence to assist Uniting Country SA to actively reduce violence against women in current and future generations. The research found that young country women experience similar types of intimate partner violence to those reported by women in urban environments, including non-physical but deeply traumatising types of abuse such as internet-based abuse.
