Professional Bio

Heather’s research focuses on legal responses to domestic and family violence. Her work on civil protection orders, child protection responses, and the criminalisation of abusive behaviours committed in the context of domestic and family violence – including non-fatal strangulation – has informed national debates and law reform. Heather coordinates the National Domestic and Family Violence Bench Book. Her book, Intimate Partner Violence, Women and the Law, draws on the experiences of 65 women who have experienced intimate partner violence and engaged with legal processes and will be published by Oxford University Press in March 2021.
