Professional Bio

Dr Kristen Smith is a senior research fellow in the Indigenous Studies Unit, Centre for Health Equity in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne, and research coordinator of the Indigenous Data Network. She has extensive experience conducting large mixed methods, multi-sited projects with urban, regional, remote and very remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia. Kristen’s recent work includes research investigating family violence experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the East Kimberley (Western Australia) and the border regions of Mildura and Albury–Wodonga (Victoria and New South Wales). Her expertise in diverse mixed methods research in challenging environments has led to the translation of her collaboratively informed research findings into policy change and resource prioritisation.
