Professional Bio

Born and raised in Gilgandra in central-west New South Wales, Rachael is currently living and working on Bidjigal Country in Sydney. She is a graduate of the University of Wollongong, holding both a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts. The 23-year-old is the current deputy editor at the National Indigenous Times. Rachael is a non-Indigenous woman. As a journalist, Rachael has gained insight and experience in various public and private sectors. She is living with a congenital heart defect. Born with tricuspid atresia, Rachael undertook Fontan surgery in her third year of life. Rachael has a keen interest in domestic and family violence, born from her own lived experience. She has worked with and sat on forums with many representatives within the domestic and family violence sector, including both mainstream, NSW state-specific and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sector representatives.
