Steve Lock

Queensland Practice Leader - Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs

Professional Bio

Steve has 25 years’ experience as a child protection social worker, including work in London, Edinburgh and Canberra. He has a Master’s Degree in Child Protection (Distinction) from Kingston University London. Steve has been part of various initiatives to build domestic violence-informed practice in child safety work across Queensland. He has worked on a series of ANROWS research studies (2015 to 2020) led by Professor Cathy Humphreys. These studies have supported the adoption of the Safe & Together Model in child protection work in Queensland. In the context of this learning, Steve led the “Walking with Dads” (WWD) initiative from 2016 to 2018. Following a successful evaluation, the WWD approach is being developed more widely across child safety work. WWD works with fathers who have patterns of violent and coercive behaviour, with the intention of holding them accountable for their violence in the context of their parenting responsibilities.
